CCPN Project Cann't Open

Hello CCPN Team,

I came across some problems with saving my projects in CCPN. I am using CCPN version 3.3.2.1 on a Windows system.

I have encountered two issues:

  1. When I select ‘Save’ from the menu, the changes do not persist. Upon reopening the project, the file reverts to its previous state.
  2. I then tried to save the project as a new file. However, when I attempted to open this new project file, the attached error message appeared.

'FileNotFoundError: No valid xml-file in “C:\Users\Zhen\OneDrive_Leeds\Desktop\Project\NMR\0Processed_data\250806_ecDXS_KC_Py_Titration_sb.ccpn\ccpnv3\memops\Implementation”

Please let me know if you require any more information.

Thank you for your assistance.
Best Regards,
Zhen

Hi Zhen,

Some things to check

  • does the existing copy of the project contain an .xml file in the ccpnv3/memops/Implementation directory/folder? If so does it end with a line containing “End of Memops Data”?

  • can you create a new project, load a spectrum and then save it in the same location as you’re trying to write to? This will test whether there’s an issue with writing to the OneDrive location (we advise against working with live data on cloud drives due to sync & permissions issues).

  • can you save the existing project to a local folder?

Best wishes,
Brian

Hi Brian,

Thanks for the reply.

I’ve checked the project files and found that the projects that won’t open are missing the memops folder. As a result, the necessary .xml files are not present.

I also saved both new and old projects to the same location today, and they saved correctly.

Do you have any suggestions on how I can prevent this from happening again?"

Best Regards,
Zhen

Hi Zhen,

Glad to hear things appear to be working OK today. Sounds as if it was indeed some sort of sync/permissions issue with your OneDrive setup.

To avoid issues of this nature. Run your project from a local directory/folder. It’s fine for your spectra to be in a cloud drive such as OneDrive since these won’t generally change and CcpnAnalysis is typically only reading from them. Do use the archive function to make regular backup archives and do copy these archives to a remote location such as your OneDrive. That way you should never lose too much work if something does go wrong with your live copy.

Best wishes,
Brian

Also

  1. do switch backups on as well
  2. there should be backups in the project directory as well which you should be able to recover data from… we usually save a backup before we save the project as well these days and these should be in backups inside the project folder and you can see them using view backups on the file menu or V,B
