Issue opening Ubuntu-saved project in Windows after update

Hi everyone,

I’m having an issue with project compatibility between Ubuntu and Windows versions of CcpNmr (both version 3.2.2) after latest update.

Here’s the situation:

I created and saved a project on Ubuntu using CcpNmr v3.2.2.

When I try to open the same project in Windows CcpNmr v3.2.2, I get the following messages:

First dialog:

You are opening an older project (version 3.0.x) –project.ccpn. When you save, it will be upgraded and will not be readable by version 3.0.4.

Then after trying to open it, I get this error:

Error loading Project:
Error loading "the_path": Expecting value: line 1 column 1 (char 0)

In the past, transferring my data from one OS to another was not a problem.

I’ve tried checking that the files aren’t corrupted, and I can still open the project just fine on Ubuntu. It seems like an incompatibility when transferring the project files between platforms.

Has anyone else run into this?

Any help or suggestions would be greatly appreciated! Thanks in advance.

Best,
pip

Hi,

a couple of things:

  1. the latest version is 3.3.2.1 - so do make sure you are up to date on that. You should be able to update to this version from 3.2.2 without a new download. Just go to the Help menu and Check for Updates.

  2. Even with 3.2.2 it seems surprising that you are coming across this problem. The best thing, might be for you to send us the project to support@ccpn.ac.uk and then we can take a look at it. I suspect it is a problem with converting Linux paths (which use forward slashes) to Windows paths (that use backslashes). In theory, this should all be working, but it could be that there is a bug lurking in there somewhere. Do send us the project (spectra not needed) and we’ll take a look.
